Alice and Wonderland 3D

Over the weekend I went with a few friends to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D at the Legacy Place Theatre. The theatre was packed by the time we got their there so we had to sit in one of the very first rows. I'm not sure if this was the cause of me not liking the 3D aspect of the film or if it really wasn't as great as it was made out to be. A few people thought it was good enough that they gave the film applause when it was over.

They decided to combine the two tales of Alice and Wonderland. We got the background of Alice's adventures as a little girl in the land of Wonderland, which Disney first showed us in its original animation version of the story, and of her journey to defeat the jabberwocki in the second half of the tale and save the inhabitants of Wonderland.

The best 3D part of the whole movie is when Alice is falling down the rabbit hole and is dodging branches and beds and tables. It really has the audience dodging back and forth in their sits right with her. The rest of the movie after that really does not have a lot of 3D animation. If it wasn't for the fact that the screen was all fuzzy when you took the glasses off I would have watched the second half of the movie without them.

Johnny Depp, the whole reason I wanted to see it in the first place, gave a pretty good performance, but not as good as I was expecting. He definitely lived up to his reputation of playing wacky roles. The character however has more of a haunted depressed feeling to it, rather then a happy and crazy, which I think is what a lot of people thought the Mad Hatter was going to be.
