Sometimes People Surprise You

This morning I got a text message from my boss wishing my luck on my finals. As an English major, they are all papers, so they are all written and already done, but I was really touched that he remembered today was my last day of classes and I had finals. It is probably because I took the whole weekend off to work on everything, which he was pretty pissed about, but that is besides the point.

Co-workers, I have learned, can be cut throat and mean. They will be the last to congratulate you on a job well done, and the first to jump all over you if you fucked up. Every once in awhile though, they surprise you with some genuine kindness. This is the type of environment I wish the workplace was always like. Everyone working together for the betterment of the company. If that were to happen, then everyone would advance without needing to step all of the other. That is a perfect world that does not exist, however.

Hopefully the Holiday season will create more of these random acts of kindness at work. I will sure try to do my part, not that I can focus on something else besides finals, to try and get over my bitchy attitude and spread some cheer around the office.
