My Very 1st 5k!!!

I did it! I completed my first 5k. I won't lie, it was hard. When we woke up yesterday morning it was raining. I was completely prepared to not do it. I think I was more scared then anything else and looking for an excuse to not go through with it. My three grampy's up in heaven had other plans however. When we got out to Marshfield the rain had stopped and the sun was shining through. Excuse gone.....thanks guys!

Me at the start of the race :)

Ray at the start (Isn't he sexy?)

We registered and got out bibs. There were a lot of people waiting in line to pick up their materials. While waiting I noticed a lot of little kids getting ready to do the run. I don't know why this surprised me, but it did. I guess I just assumed all of these type races were adults only; naive I know! Something to rub that surprise in a little more.....most of them did better then me. Oh well!

On the road...

There was a lot of walking involved in this race. You might be able to tell from that picture that it is very hilly. The course was a challenge. Almost all of it was hills. Hence the name Run for the Hills 5k! I would say we walked 1.5 and ran the other 1.5.

 Pretty Views

It was a really nice course in terms of the views. We ran in a nice suburban area of Marshfield with great big houses and manicured lawns. There were people line up along the roads at some points encouraging and congratulating everyone. It was nice to have that support. That seemed to be the whole vibe at the race, support and encouragment. Now here is the killer.....
Last 1/2 mile was this steep hill.....

Me at the start of the hill...already dying

The hill continues

Ray is not impressed :)

Overall, it was a really good day. Ray pushed me to go harder then I thought I could. We finished in 41 minutes. I place 13th in my age group, Ray placed 14th, and we finished 366 and 367 out of 419. While those are not fantastic results, it gives us a starting point to improve for the next one. We are thinking of doing another one on October 6th. Fingers crossed we do better at that one!

Completed!!

Once we were done we celebrated with a mini cookout at our apartment sporting our newly earned gear. Turkey burger for me and a double patty regular burger for Ray. The boy could eat a whole box of burgers and not gain a pound! Oh the envy! I also decided that this would be fitting....

Post Road Pumpkin Ale!!
